Greek scenographer, architect and researcher living and working in Utrecht, the Netherlands. She first studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and worked for architectural firms in Spain and Greece, when her fascination for ephemerality, narration and spectatorship triggered her to explore scenography. She studied at the Laboratory of Scenography in Athens and pursued her master’s in scenography at the HKU in Utrecht. Her artistic research, which began during her postgraduate studies and continues to guide her artistic career, explores the limits of reality and deals with creating misleading situations by using copies/replicas. In 2022, at the theatre Kikker in Utrecht, she completed her first own performance Where are you? what do you see? where she explored scenography and the space as the main dramaturgical elements. Last, as a member of the Podium Atmospheres collective, she is curating the Dutch ECR entry in the Prague Quadrennial 2023.
This performance attempts to play with the spectators’ reception and raise questions regarding reality in the virtual and the physical world. At the end of the performance, the spectators leave the stage following the performer’s path. As a group of tourists, they go through all the places they have seen before through the virtual window and discover all the tricks behind the deception. During the pandemic, the world jumped from a physical to a virtual reality. There was a time when our sole connection with the others was through screens and media. But how accurate is this mediatised reality? During the performance the spectators had the chance to experience a rare condition where the virtual and the physical happen in front of their eyes – yet they still got tricked and misled. The scale model, usually used as a tool during the creation process, took the role of the scenery, equally important to the rest of the space.
