Bio

Born in Athens in 1985, she studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts, at the School of Drama of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specialising in Set & costume Design. Her thesis on the set & costumes of Wonderful, wonderful days, a performance by E. Efthimiou, participated in the competitive section of the Warsaw International Theatre Festival, MFST ITSelf and was presented at the 46th Dimitria (2011). As a set and lighting designer she has collaborated with state theatrical organisations, private theatre companies mostly in Athens but also in the periphery, as well as abroad (National Theatre of Greece, National Theatre of Northern Greece, Athens Epidaurus Festival, Art Theatre Karolos Koun, Municipal and Regional Theatres of Larissa, Ioannina and Kozani, Philippi Festival, Dimitria, Analogio Festival, Fast Forward Festival, Under Cloud Festival et.al.). She also works as a set designer in films and television.

A performance where actual space and actual time meet in an actual environment. Real space, time and spectator are merged in a pandemic reality. The illusory need for reality marked the selection of locals, non-actors, as protagonists. The spectators are co-creators who are not acting but actively expressing themselves. The reality of the pandemic imposed the reality of the setting on the reality of the outdoor space. Perhaps we should agree that an essential theatre convention is that shift from real space and time to the performance space and time. The pandemic may have deprived us of the actual place where show and spectator meet, but it has maintained, reinforced and transposed another fundamental principle, that of illusion, beyond spatial and time limits. Live streaming transformed the viewer’s personal space into performance space. Stage design does not represent, nor create, but rather encloses the environment making it a theatrical event. The consistency in the choises is the new tangible way of dealing with illusion.
