THE COMEDY OF ERRORS

Bio

Born in Athens. She studied in the Department of Interior Architecture at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens and holds an MA in Textile and Costume Design from Goldsmiths University of London and London College of Fashion. She completed her internship at National Theatre of London. Since then, she has worked as a costume designer for fringe theatre performances in London and Athens. She was assistant costume designer of the performance Odyssey directed by Robert Wilson at the National Theatre of Greece. She has collaborated with directors including Katerina Evangelatos, Lilly Meleme, Kostas Gakis, Vasilis Mavrogeorgiou, Nikos Mastorakis, Sophia Marathaki, Yannis Laspias, Petros Zoulias et.al. at numerous theatres, including the National Theatre of Greece, the Little Theatre of Epidaurus and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. She won first prize for costume design at the Drama International Short Film Festival, 2016, for the short film The ship that should not be, directed by Sifis Mainas. She was nominated for the Athinorama magazine Audience Awards three times (2014, 2015, 2019).

The director’s guideline was to be inspired by the world of Oskar Schlemmer’s Triadic Ballet and by the aesthetics of the Bauhaus movement generally. The visual research into the costumes included a wide range of structures from the Bauhaus period, as well as contemporary architecture, art and fashion inspired by the Bauhaus and modernism. The design process was extremely creative and challenging, as I had to take into consideration contradictory demands, such as the sustainability of the costumes in a complicated choreography, the performers’ hygiene and safety and the expectation of high aesthetic standards. This project reminds me of the pre-Covid period when theatre life in Athens was thriving and urges me to stay hopeful and creative after a long period where the arts as an essential part of our lives have been downsised.
