In the process of my scenographic research, my primary intention was to be site specific, at the Firkas Fortress. As we narrated different actions throughout the performance, we needed a medium that could offer us the different symbolisms and interpretations. How can 12-15 different props, apparently all chairs, assume a different meaning and dynamics in the performance? The creation began during the quarantine, the outcome of a beautiful smooth cooperation between the collaborators. Considering the idea of a chorus coming together to tell a story, we worked on various forms of dramaturgy. The Firkas Fortress, a significant landmark in Chania which is not a theatrical space, “opened” up to us. Thus, we decided to remove any artificial lighting design and work exclusively with natural light, as a token of respect for the grandeur of the location.
